Keep your e-reader dashboard updating: power, Wi-Fi, sleep and browser dimensions.
An E Ink image may remain visible after the browser stops. This does not mean the clock or data is updating. Web mode needs an awake device, a running browser and a working network connection.
Sleep, shutdown and Wi-Fi are separate settings
Disable automatic sleep and shutdown where firmware allows. Separately check Wi-Fi power saving and browser suspension when idle. A longer timeout is not an unlimited mode. Page refreshes alone do not guarantee that sleep is prevented.
Settings to check by device family
These are documentation-based suggestions, not a claim that EINKTIME has physically tested every model. Test your own firmware for 30–60 minutes, and again after several hours.
Kobo
Clara BW / Colour, Libra Colour and other Kobo models: More → Settings → Energy saving and privacy. Check Automatically go to sleep after and Automatically power off after. Select Never if available. Disable cover-triggered sleep if needed. Test Wi-Fi separately after a long idle period; a sleep setting does not guarantee an always-on network.
Go 6, Palma, Note Air3 and other BOOX models: Settings → Power, or Settings → Display on some firmware. Check Auto Sleep, Auto Shutdown and wireless disconnection after sleep. Select Never if offered, otherwise the longest timeout and test it. Android browsers may provide keep-awake modes. Where available, Android developer option Stay awake keeps the screen on while charging, but does not itself guarantee Wi-Fi operation.
Verse, Verse Pro, Era and InkPad 4: Settings → Saving Power → Auto screen lock / Power off after. Disable these timers if supported, otherwise select the longest time. Check Wi-Fi separately and avoid closing a magnetic cover during use. Menu labels vary with firmware.
Keyboard / Touch, Paperwhite, Kindle 11 and Oasis: stock sleep behaviour limits continuous browser dashboards. If Settings → Device Options → Sleep Timer exists, extend it without treating it as an unlimited mode. Older Paperwhite guides describe automatic sleep after inactivity. There is no confirmed universal never-sleep method for every Kindle; permanent operation may need a model-specific client and firmware.
The address bar, toolbars, scrollbar, zoom, orientation and pixel density change usable space. There is no universal 80 or 100 pixel deduction. A model preset is only a starting point. EINKTIME fits the public display into the available browser area while preserving its aspect ratio; measure on the actual device to fill the space without spare margins.

Find the usable size
Create a screen using a model preset. Open its calibration URL on the e-reader. Choose the intended orientation, zoom and toolbar state. Note the viewport width and height in CSS pixels, enter them in the editor, save and check all four frame edges. Old browsers may report inaccurate measurements; finish by adjusting the size manually against the frame.
One measured example: a Paperwhite 3 running firmware 5.16.2.1.1 had a 1072 × 1448 panel, reported 1072 × 1268 and exposed about 1072 × 1231 usable pixels. This is one device observation, not a universal Kindle offset. Source ↗
What the keep-awake button can do
The display page can request a Screen Wake Lock if supported. The browser may reject it, and the system can release it or remove it when the page is hidden. Older browsers often lack this API. It does not control Wi-Fi or override firmware restrictions. Fullscreen also depends on browser support.
A dedicated client can wake on a timer, fetch an image and sleep again instead of running a browser continuously. For example, kindle-dash uses this approach and requires jailbreak; its author tested only Kindle 4 NT. It is a separate installation, not a built-in EINKTIME integration. Check firmware and image-format compatibility.
Check that time changes without touching the screen, including after browser toolbars disappear. Test network recovery after Wi-Fi drops and reopening after a restart. Leave it running for several hours and check power and temperature. Active Wi-Fi, browsing and frontlight use more power than reading with sleep. Use suitable power and built-in charge limits where available.
Screen size presets
Portrait orientation. Manufacturer specifications describe the panel. Kindle presets come from KCC and are not browser viewport measurements. Colour models use black-and-white content resolution. Swap orientation in the editor as needed.
